Cloud App vs Local App: Where the Data Has to Live
CodeLoop Studio ·

Cloud versus local is where the data has to live, who can work without a signal, and who is allowed to hold the keys. It is not a slogan on a homepage. Most products we ship are hosted. Offline field work is the exception that has to be named in the brief — not discovered in sprint five.
CodeLoop Studio in Sarajevo builds custom software either way. The commercial page is custom software development. Whether you even need an app is web app vs website.
What “cloud” means on our contracts
A URL, accounts, backups, a vendor or a VPS you control. Staff work from more than one place. You still own the source. Cloud is not “we keep your data in a studio login.” Hosting accounts stay yours when we handover. Updates after v1 are maintenance, not a mystery fee inside “cloud.”
When local or on-device is the honest choice
No signal on the job. WoodMeter measures timber in the field. That is a device and a workflow, not a SaaS checkbox.
A rule that says the data cannot leave the building. Say it on day one. We will not pretend a public host is “basically the same.”
A till or a bench that cannot wait on Wi-Fi. Koliko is bar inventory staff run — the product has to survive the shift, not only the pitch.
Mobile binaries. Store apps are a different install story — custom mobile app development — even when they talk to a cloud API.
We will not scare you with a fake private cloud
On-prem is real work: backups, updates, a person who holds the machine. If you do not have that person, a “local” install is a silent failure. We would rather host honestly. How we build the logged-in product is web app development.
