Event Tracking Plans: Name the Event Before You Ship the Pixel

An event tracking plan is a list of names, properties, and who opens the dashboard on Monday — not a tag manager dumped on the site the afternoon before launch. If every click is “click,” you do not have analytics. You have noise.

CodeLoop Studio in Sarajevo ships products with a freeze: which events exist, where they fire, and whose account they land in. You keep Analytics, Mixpanel, or whatever you already reconcile. A first product slice is often MVP development. A campaign URL with one job is a landing page, not a product event taxonomy.

Name the job, then the event

Search submitted, checkout started, menu opened, measurement saved — those are events. Scroll depth on a brochure is decoration unless someone will change copy from it. We will not invent a “growth stack” of forty events for a site with one form.

cijene.me is a price comparison product: the useful events are search and compare, not a heatmap of the footer. seeQRmenu cares that a venue published a menu, not that a guest hovered a photo. Tenants and billing are a different contract — SaaS development agency.

What we freeze

  • Your property. Events go to your Google Analytics, your product tool, your ads account. We do not hold the pixel as a hostage.

  • A short list. Names that a non-engineer can read. Properties you will actually filter. No “event_42” from a sprint leftover.

  • PII stays out. Emails and names do not belong in event payloads because a dashboard asked for “richer data.”

  • No invented conversion rates. We will not publish a ROAS we did not measure. Technical SEO on a site is still titles and a crawl — SEO for websites.

When tracking waits

If the form does not arrive in mail, fix the form. If checkout dies on mobile, fix checkout — ecommerce checkout. Pixels on a broken path teach you the wrong lesson faster.
